Our Engagement Story

Ok so I know it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything.  If you want to get specific, it’s almost been about a month.

Any hope of blogging about my August Birchbox & Ipsy has gone by the wayside.

I’ve been a little bit busy.  I said goodbye to my job and all the people who made it special.  I tried to relax for a few days before our vacation.  Those days quickly turned into a marathon of preparing to leave for vacation.

I went on vacation… and the love of my life proposed to me.  We’re engaged!

If this is news to you, then we must not be friends on Facebook, you’re as bad about checking Instagram as I am, or you’re not one of the bajillion strangers I have crossed paths with that happened to be a victim of my unsolicited gushing.  If this is the first you are hearing of this… WE’RE GETTING MARRIED!!!!!

I can’t wait to tell you all about our wonderful vacation, but that will have to be a post for another day.

I had my suspicions that he would be proposing on this trip.  All of my friends and family assured me that it would happen.  I kept telling myself it wouldn’t just so I wouldn’t be disappointed at the end of this super awesome vacation if it didn’t happen.  I woke up in my little bunk in a Vermont cabin the second morning of our vacation, and I just knew we were getting engaged that day.  Also partly because we had reservations at the fanciest place of our lives and were staying in a schmancy hotel and the entire night was unintentionally built for an engagement.

We drove up to Montreal, struggled to find our way around after my phone decided that it refused to be Canadian, and checked into our hotel.  This place and the view from our balcony were unreal.

Every little movement he made had me thinking… is it going to happen now?  What about now?  I’m eating cold leftover pizza that we smuggled across the border from the night before so maybe not now.  Full Disclosure: Border patrol actually asked me if I had anything to declare and I guiltily admitted that I had leftover pizza, so I suppose it wasn’t smuggling per se.

We took a nap and started to get ready for our 9pm reservation.  I wasn’t done putting my face on, so he told me to meet him on the patio.  I thought, “THIS IS TOTALLY GOING TO BE IT”.  We went out on the patio and took a slew of selfies.

There was also a giant spider building a web right above our heads.  I retracted the selfie stick so we could leave for dinner when he looked at me and told me he had a question for me.

Spider, this is totally going to be it.

He said a couple of really nice things.  I don’t know what they were.  Since I knew what was happening, everything that came out of his mouth sounded like Charlie Brown’s teacher.  Side note, he doesn’t remember what he said either, so it’s ok.  The next thing I knew he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand.

For me, I always expected my engagement to be this beautiful, fluid fairy tale where he says a speech that I remember forever, he gets down on one knee, asks me to be his wife, a single tear rolls down my cheek as I say yes through the hand that is covering my mouth in disbelief.  Then we hug and kiss and live happily ever after.

For me, I screamed a scream that echoed throughout Canada.  I am fairly certain everyone on the rooftop bar thought I was probably getting engaged, but maybe murdered.  I completely ruined my makeup.  It took me just about a full minute to squeak something out that wasn’t gasps of air or “OH MY GOD”.  We needed to take more selfies to capture this moment.  I did get engaged under a spider with a selfie stick in my right hand, after all.  Then we both realized that he was still holding the ring.  We thought it might be a good idea if I wear it.  Bless you for capturing this for us, selfie stick.

Word to our engagement spider.

Your run-of-the-mill fairy tale this was not.  But my fairy tale and everything I imagined this moment to feel like, it absolutely was.

We are getting married in November of next year, so the wedding planning is already underway!

There are so many blogs I want to blog but blogging will be scarce for a little while.  I started my new job this week and in addition to commuting for over two hours per day, I am studying for my Series 24 license.  My goal for the next couple months is a little bit of wedding planning, a LOT bit of studying, and maybe I can get some blogging in there too 🙂  Oh, and sleep is important.

Thanks for stopping by!  See y’all next time…
