Lazy Girl Eyeshadow Storage Craft Time… and Life Update!

Hello everyone!  I’ll bet you thought this blog was dead.  I realize that I have not posted since before my wedding.  I have fit a lot of life into the past four months!  Our wedding was more magical than I ever could have imagined.  It was so wonderful to be surrounded by the people we love and to have them share in our special day.  I will also say that it was a heck of a party and I never wanted the night to end.  Below are a couple photos from our big day shot by the amazing Lindsey Mueller Photography as well as our incredible video created by Bring Works.

I plan on making another post to talk about the vendors we chose and why they are so amazing!

About a week after our wedding, we hopped on a plane to Mexico to spend the next 9 days doing nothing on the beach at Excellence Playa Mujeres.  We had the most amazing time relaxing, drinking some frozen beachy drinks, and eating way too much.  I can’t recommend this incredible resort enough.  I plan to write a post about our experience there, as well.  For now, I’ll just leave you with this photo of our room.

After we got back from our honeymoon, it was time for the holidays.  I also changed my last name during this time, which was a super fun process, let me tell ya!  I figured since I had just come off of being in planning mode from the wedding for so long that I may as well jump into the next project.  Once the holidays and name change were done, our adventurous little souls decided to purchase a home.  Actually, we decided on Christmas morning that we would like to begin the process.  Even knowing that my husband would have completely insane and unpredictable hours for the first half the year, we moved forward with the process.

The housing market in Austin is NUTS, y’all.  We lucked out and our offer was accepted on the second house we put an offer on.  And wouldn’t you know it, this fella wanted a quick close.  We closed on February 3rd and moved in the next day.  A whopping 40 days after we even decided we wanted to purchase a home.

We went from fiancees to newlyweds to honeymooners to homeowners in under three months.  We must be out of our minds, but we are so excited to start our life together as Mr. and Mrs. G in our very own home!

There is still quite a bit to do decor-wise, but we’re making progress little by little.  We have a new dining table and a new fridge, but our new sofa won’t be here for another few weeks.  I really had no idea how dang expensive purchasing a home would be!

It’s pretty amusing what you grow to appreciate when you own your own home.  Lowe’s and Home Depot are now some of my favorite shopping spots.  I’ve actually learned that I truly enjoy the satisfaction of pulling weeds.  You become careful when hanging things on the walls because now you actually care about how many holes you make since they’re your own stinking walls and you paid a lot of money for them to be your walls.  Which brings me to to the original purpose of this post…

I made a thing!  My husband and I had separate bathrooms in our old house.  I was able to be as messy and disorganized with my makeup storage as my little makeup-addicted heart desired.  Now that we share a bathroom I have to be a little more respectful our space.  I keep a modestly-sized makeup organizer on our counter that I try to keep stocked with basic, everyday items.  Everything else is stored away in plastic drawers.  It’s easy to neglect your poor, lonely single eyeshadows when you can just whip out one of your go-to palettes.  Why not find a way to display your single eyeshadows and have it look cute and decorative at the same time?!  Well, have I got a completely unoriginal idea for you!

I’ve had a pin for this kind of thing pinned since the beginning of Pinterest.  It involved sweet talking someone in Home Depot into cutting a piece of metal and picking out a fabric and gluing and a thing and I just was too lazy to deal with that kind of craft.  I decided to try a different route.

I purchased this magnetic board from Jet.com in December 2015 and purchased these magnets from Amazon this week.  Why has it taken me so long to finally do this stinkin’ project?  Because I originally bought magnets from a craft store and they were not strong enough for this magnetic board.  I apparently needed some mega magnets and since I had no inclination to keep my makeup organized until now, the project was put on the back burner.  So for this super easy project for lazy girl eyeshadow organization, you’ll need the following things:

Magnetic Board

Magnets

Hot Glue

Eyeshadows (duh!)

I realize that I probably didn’t need a list for this but it seemed fun.

Anyway, this is pretty self explanatory, but you just glue a magnet onto each little lonely eyeshadow and voila… the laziest crafting project you have ever done.

A word of advice, just stick with hot glue.  I started to use Gorilla Glue and even after it caused a lot of trouble and slippy magnets, I was too lazy to go downstairs to get my hot glue gun and continued to torture myself until I just decided to go to bed.  Using hot glue on the remaining shadows made everything go 10x faster.  Here is the finished product.

I’m also pretty lazy with my photography

Bonus points if you noticed that one of my shadows has Nicolas Cage on it.

It’s called Nic Cage Raking Leaves on a Brisk October Afternoon.  I’m not kidding.  I also have a bronzer inspired by Benedict Cumberbatch’s cheekbones.  If you haven’t checked out Shiro Cosmetics, you should.  They’re pretty rad.

I am hoping that now that things have settled down a bit I have more time for blogging!  I sure have missed this thing…

Thanks for stopping by!  See y’all next time…

  1. Glad to see you back! Lots of great life events! Good project, but I am still too disorganized to keep up with anything besides tossing in this or that drawer!
