This Halloween, I put my boyfriend in charge of choosing our costumes. He wanted to go as bananas. So we went as bananas.

We were quite the bunch!

In order for me to step up my banana game and accept the fact that I was going to dress up as a banana, I decided to do some fun banana makeup (whatever that means). I looked on Google, YouTube, and Pinterest for “banana makeup ideas”. Trust me, there is no such thing. I had no choice but to get creative!

My version of “banana makeup”

In case you are ever in the market for eye glitter, you don’t have to pay top dollar for the Urban Decay stuff.  At the end of the day, it is just glitter and you should not be paying $12 for it.  On the same note, do NOT ever put craft store glitter on your eyes.  Martha Stewart would not approve. Sally Beauty Supply has them for $0.99 per bottle.

1. I took a gold-ish yellow shadow from a no-name Five Below eyeshadow palette and put it on my entire lid and tear duct area.  Surprisingly, this palette has some really awesome, pigmented shadows.

2. To apply the glitter to my eyelid, I used an eyeshadow brush I don’t really like, dipped it in eyelash glue, dipped it in the glitter, and layered it onto the middle portion of my eyelid.  A good indicator that you are done applying is when your eyelids become so stiff with the glittery glue concoction that you cannot open them all the way.

3. Before applying the glitter, I put Urban Decay Half Baked into my crease and up onto my brow bone.

4. I deepened my crease with Urban Decay Darkhorse and applied it along the outer third of my lower lashline.

5. I highlighted my brow bone with Urban Decay Virgin.

I completed the rest of my eye makeup with some cream eyeliner, mascara, and false lashes.  This was not my proudest eyeliner job as I am not used to using this eyeliner and do not have the right brush to make it work on the rocky, glittery surface.  I am partial to the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner, but did not want to destroy the felt tip by dragging it across the caked on glitter.  I used some brown eye liner to draw “banana spots” on my brow.

Taking off both the glitter and fake eyelashes is always a terrifying time. Every time I do this, I am fairly certain all my eyelashes will come out. Even though I was careful, I lost a few good men up there that night.

The night after Halloween we went to our friends’ “Halloween at Hogwarts” party. These friends are probably the most creative and artistic people I know. Even J.K. Rowling herself would have been impressed by the level of detail at this party. We were going to wear our banana costumes to the Harry Potter party, but that would have been too much for me. I ended up dusting off my Master’s hood and gown.  I knew that thing would eventually be good for something!

In case you are wondering how I made my hair so big, it took minimal effort.  And by minimal effort I mean that this is what my hair looks like in between the blow drying and straightening processes.  My life would be so much easier if 80’s hair came back and I could just rock this ‘do all day.

Now that the temps have cooled down a bit, it finally feels like fall! I spent my Saturday morning attempting to rid my patio of spider webs and their residents (to no avail) and decorating my front door.

Nothing like some fake fall foliage to spruce up your door!

I was surprised, but kind of not, to see that Starbucks is using their red holiday cups.  Is it that time of the year already?  As of this morning, my local Barista officially knows my name and “accidentally” gave me four shots of espresso.  It was a great Monday morning.  I was also pretty thrilled about that extra hour of sleep!
