Monday.. Monday… Gettin’ down on Monday!! (said no one ever) Helloooo everyone and hello to Spring (finally)! Here in Austin, Spring means a few things:
- Festival Season
- Severe Allergies
- Bluebonnets
- The Reopening of Snow Cone Stands
- Unseasonably Warm Temperatures
- Texas Mountain Laurel (my favorite scent in the entire world)
- Pollen Covered Vehicles
- Greenery EVERYWHERE
Not all of these things are bad, but they’re not all good either! One thing I can say is that it seems that this entire city turned green overnight. It has been lovely. Except I have discovered that the bush in front of my house has been taken over by bees. Hundreds (maybe thousands, I swear) of bees. They do not seem to want anything to do with me or entering our home so they are free to pollenate as they please!
My goal in the next few weeks is to take pictures in the Bluebonnets! For those of you non-Texans out there, the Bluebonnet is our State Flower. It is a beautiful, blue flower that magically pops up each year in early Spring.
I always put off taking photos and they’re always gone by the time I think about getting around to it. I am going up to Arkansas on Thursday to bring home my new fur baby, so Bluebonnet photos may be in the plans for later in the weekend 🙂
This weekend was super eventful and super fun! On Friday, we had my boyfriend’s parents over for the first time to celebrate his mom’s birthday! I was very excited to show them the finished condo renovations and to have them over for dinner. There were also cupcakes from Hey Cupcake. It was a wonderful night.
On Saturday we went to a Crawfish Boil. I cannot seem to get past the tearing-apart-a-crustacean-to-get-to-the-meat thing, so I stayed away from the Mud Bugs. Plus, when you think about the fact that they are called “Mud Bugs” and equate them to actual insects, they become very unappetizing. I was able to spend time with my dear friends and play with the most adorable baby, so it was a blast!
Last night we saw It Follows at the Alamo Drafthouse. SUPER creepy movie! I would say it is a mix between Paranormal Activity, Drive, and Napoleon Dynamite. Trust me, this will make sense when you see it. I thought it was a great film and was excited that they set it up for a sequel! It is not often these days that a horror movie is not based on gore. I like just being creeped out. I can do without the blood and guts.
Anyway, I figured I should review my March Birchbox before the month is, ya know, over.
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil
I wish I could tell you what I thought of this product, because I love a good hair protectant/oil. In each Birchbox, there is always a little pouch that contains some of your samples. I noticed when I opened the box that something had leaked. This happens. It has happened before. Instead of emptying samples into my hand, I emptied out broken glass!
Fortunately I was not cut, but it did take a little while to find all the tiny pieces on my kitchen floor. I sent Birchbox this photo to let them know that either something went wrong with their packaging or something is wrong with the packaging of the product. Birchbox has some of the best customer service around, so they let me know that a replacement sample was on its way. Once I receive it, I will let you know if it was worth the adventure!

Fekkai PrX Reparatives Shampoo
I wish I could tell you how awesome this shampoo is, but it was another sample I could not use. This shampoo has sulfates and I cannot use it with my keratin treatment. Even though it has been a while since my last treatment, I do not want to strip out what little treatment I have remaining on my hair! I gave it to my coworker, so hopefully she is enjoying it as much as I would have!

Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge
I LOVED this lip stain! Gloss? Long-Wear Lipstick? Miracle Glop? I am not too sure how to categorize this lip color but I can tell you that it is awesome. The photo below was taken after about 5 hours, a couple glasses of water, and a cup of coffee. (and probably a tiny candy bar if we’re being honest, here)
If you’re in the market for a good long-lasting lip color, then you may want to give this Australian brand a shot! There are a ton of colors available. The one I am wearing in the photo would not have been my first pick in lip colors, but I did receive compliments on it! I could not believe how long it lasted without completely drying out my lips. Awesome.

Harvey Prince – Sincerely
Are you looking for the perfect Spring/Summer fragrance? Get this one. It is hard for me to review fragrances only because everyone’s taste is different. So if I tell you that it smells like sunshine and clean laundry and that it is wonderfully wonderful, you may think it smells like garbage. If I tell you that it smells like the general aroma of the room at 5 o’clock bingo, you may think that your nose has died and gone to heaven. To each her own. All I can tell you is that I enjoyed it and it is absolutely going on my birthday wish list 😉

Jelly Pong Pong GLOW GETTER Highlighter
I actually didn’t even touch this sample for a couple of days because I thought it was a nail polish. I don’t use nail polish because I chew on my nails and I am not worthy. I didn’t realize that I should give it another look until I was throwing out the little list of samples that comes in the box. This highlighter is awesome and the price is not too shabby either. I think some of the risk that these companies take is that people will not end up purchasing the full-size products since the samples will last forever. Thank you, Jelly Pong Pong (love the name), you will keep my face highlighted for quite some time.

I hope everyone has a wonderful (and hopefully short) week! Tonight I am taking my dad out for Indian food to celebrate the big 6-0! I also got a couple of cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes. So delish!
Thanks for stopping by! See y’all next time…
Marissa
I am going to buy the lipstain as it looks great after the amount of time you had it on and after drinking water, etc.
