May Birchbox Review

I am aware that it is June and that it is no longer May.  Therefore, why would I be slacking waiting this long to do my May Birchbox Review?  Well, in my defense, I didn’t receive my May box until June!

For some reason, my May box was “undeliverable as addressed”.  Like three times.  I was watching my tracking information like a hawk.  Arrived at Austin USPS Facility.  Out For Delivery.  UNDELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED.  Departed Austin USPS Facility.  Arrived DALLAS USPS FACILITY??  What is happening??

My dreams of makeup and hair stuffs were unraveling before my very eyes with each tracking update.  Very dramatic, I know.  But it was a disappointment to see it arrive at my mailbox only to have it taken back to the post office.  I am still not sure what happened, but they ended up successfully sending me a replacement.

Let’s just get right to it, shall we?

Number 4 Blow Dry Lotion

$32 in the Birchbox Shop

Birchbox has sent me a few products from this brand in the past and I have loved every one.  I figured this one would be no exception.  I was sick for a few days wore my hair in its natural curly state all last week, so I wasn’t able to try this product until this weekend. Yesterday I decided to not look like a troll that was put through the washing machine, dryer, and then lit on fire… and became a human again by washing and straightening my hair.  I think I liked this product?  At first I thought it was great, because my hair was not doing the whole Monica-Gellar-In-Barbados thing it normally does while it air dries throughout my makeup routine.  It stayed pretty smooth that whole time and was less frizzy after I dried it.  My only gripe is that it added a significant amount of time to my normal drying time.  Typically, my hair expands into a blonde cotton ball puff within 3-4 minutes.  I was concerned that this would result in the product weighing my hair down.  But when all was said and done, it felt smooth, clean, and much less troll-like.  Verdict: This brand still gets an A+.  Birchbox, puh-lease send more!

JUARA Candlenut Body Creme

$38 in the Birchbox Shop

Another day, another body lotion, right?  I know that I have expressed my lack of desire to have body lotions sent to me, so I will spare you the whining.  But if any of you need any body lotion ever, I have samples for days.

This one I actually kind of liked. It smells nice.  It makes your skin feels like a baby’s butt without feeling too heavy.  But $38 for lotion?  Unless I wake up one morning with the skin of a reptile, this gal is not shelling out for this hefty price tag.

W3LL PEOPLE The Expressionist Mascara

$23.50 in the Birchbox Shop

I love mascara samples!  I get super excited when I actually receive makeup that isn’t a lip stain/color/stick/gloss/tint.  I liked this mascara for a few reasons.  The packaging was this pretty, clean, matte white tube that made you want to wash your hands of any lingering concealer so you don’t get it dirty.  I liked the brush it came with too.  It separated my lashes without clumping them and felt very light.  My only gripe, and this is because of my puny lashes, is that it doesn’t lengthen enough for my taste.  But if you have a lash length that you’re even semi-ok with, this is a great mascara to try!

Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel

$24 in the Birchbox Shop

I am so glad they sent me a lightweight gel moisturizer.  The temperatures are slowly but surely quickly climbing and destroying my life here in Central Texas.  We’re already experiencing daily temps in the upper 90’s, y’all.  Plus humidity out the wazoo.  On days when your AC can’t even combat this less than desirable weather, a hot shower seems like a good idea until you get out.   You know, because you’re sweating.  Anyway, I love how cool this gel moisturizer feels coming out of the tube and light it feels on my face.  It reminded me a lot of the Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturizer. If you’re looking for a heavy duty moisturizer, this is not for you.  But if you’re looking for a lightweight moisturizer to get the job done during the summer, then this may be your winner!

CoTZ Flawless Complexion SPF 50

$20 in the Birchbox Shop

Another product that I love receiving in the summer time is anything with SPF.  I try not to deprive my face of SPF during other times of the year, but I spend more time outside during the summer months (which I’m sure is the case for most).  This product is tinted but actually goes on pretty sheer.  You can’t really tell that it is tinted once it is on your face, but it does give you a nice summer sheen (in a good way)!  Aside from it being SPF 50, here is my favorite part: it does not smell like sunscreen!  At all.  Something with SPF that doesn’t reek of sunscreen?  Who could concoct such a miracle shlop??  The sun gods, my friends.  If you’re looking for something nice to slather on your face that will protect you from the sun, but you don’t really care about coverage, then this is a must!

If you are looking for something that will keep your skin looking like Casper underneath but will give you a little bit more of a sun-kissed glow, I recommend a couple of products Birchbox has sent me in the past.  The Coola Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint will give you protection from the sun and some light matte coverage.  My go-to for all months of the year has been the Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream SPF 35+.  This stuff is my absolute favorite and is what I use in leiu of foundation most days.  It gives you a nice year round summery glow, in addition to the benefits of SPF!

There are so many awesome products out there with sun protection that you can add to your daily makeup routine.  Sunscreen isn’t just for using underneath or instead of makeup anymore!
